The love train

We just recently discovered "unplug your kids",  (link here)
an amazing blog by an "unplugged mom of 3, living a... tv-free, video-game-free, and no loud toys life ".  Her blog is chuck full of great ideas for books, art,  projects in all ranges from science, math, reading, art etc!!!  All kinds of exciting things to do with kids.  I have been thoroughly inspired.  (as I am, by the way, with all these great parenting blogs I stumble upon!)
"Unplug your kids" has a weekly project based on a particular theme.
What is an "Unplugged Project"?
I quote from her site...

"Sometimes we all need a little push (me included) to set aside our chores and have some creative fun with our children. The Unplugged Project is a weekly communal project which hopefully will inspire you and me to spend some high-quality but low-tech time with our little ones.  Every week I propose some sort of theme. I try to keep the weekly topic very general so that you can adapt it to your children’s ages and interests."

This week her theme was on  "transportation".  We were a little late in the game to participate but we gave it a small  go anyhow!

Honeypie and I listened and most importantly, danced  to the  "love train" sung by keb' mo' (listen here!) on the super awesome cd,  Putumayo kids presents: sing along with putumayo.

Love train

"People all over the world
Join hands
Start a love train, love train
People all over the world (all the world, now)
Join hands
Start a love train (love ride), love train
The next stop that we make will be soon
Tell all the folks in Russia, and China, too
Don't you know that it's time to get on board
And let this train keep on riding, riding on through
Well, well
People all over the world (you don't need no money)
Join hands (come on)
Start a love train, love train (don't need no ticket, come on)
People all over the world (Join in, ride this train)
Join in (Ride this train, y'all)
Start a love train (Come on, train), love train
All of you brothers over in Africa
Tell all the folks in Egypt, and Israel, too
Please don't miss this train at the station
'Cause if you miss it, I feel sorry, sorry for you"

And ...

What to do with your colored easter eggs? Why not make a "LOVE TRAIN". !!!

We used all sorts of found goodies in our collage bin and took our eggs on a family "love train" ride!!

We also played with our train table and looked at her photos from the "crazy train love" faze she had when she was 2.  (Thomas the train was her huge friend!)  We read some of her old train book favorites and listened to some more train inspired songs...

Dan Zanes " catch that train" and " get on board little children"
Elizabeth Mitchell "freight train"
and a great album by John Denver "all aboard"  our favorite song in it is "Freight Train Boogie/Choo Choo Ch'boogie"

Here are some old pictures of our little choo-choo...

Here are some of our favorite train books...

We had a great time participating in this weeks theme and can't wait for next week's!!!
